Shipping Agent in Malaysia: Questions

What does a shipping agent do in Malaysia?

A shipping (port) agent represents the ship owner or charterer during a port call: preparing for arrival, clearing the vessel and cargo through customs, ordering pilotage and towage, coordinating cargo operations, looking after the crew and settling the port costs through a final disbursement account.

Which Malaysian ports does Arangmas cover?

Penang, Lumut, Port Klang, Port Dickson and Melaka on the west coast; Tanjung Pelepas and Pasir Gudang in the south; Kuantan, Kemaman and Kerteh on the east coast; Kuching, Bintulu and Miri in Sarawak; and Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Labuan in Sabah and Labuan.

Where is Arangmas based?

Our head office is at Maritime Biz Hub, D’Wharf, Port Dickson Waterfront, Negeri Sembilan. We have been in Port Dickson since 2006.

Can you act as a husbandry agent only?

Yes. As husbandry agent we look after the vessel and crew while another agent handles the cargo: crew changes, doctor appointments, stores and spares, cash to master, surveys, repairs and lay-up.

Do you handle Domestic Shipping Licence (DSL) applications?

Yes. We prepare and submit the ship’s certificates and documents to the Ministry of Transport as soon as the owner provides them, and follow up closely so the licence is approved before the vessel reaches the load or discharge port.

Do you work as a sub agent for other agencies?

Yes. We act as sub agent at ports across Malaysia for other shipping agencies: inward and outward clearance, attending vessels, cash to master and package delivery.

Do you also do freight forwarding and customs clearance?

Yes. As forwarding agent we receive cargo from your local supplier, prepare and submit import and export documents, represent you during customs assessment and duty payment, and deliver the cargo once released.

How do I appoint Arangmas for a port call?

Email info@arangmas.my or call +60 6-647 3000 (24 hours: +60 6-646 4362) with the vessel, port, cargo and ETA. We reply with a pro-forma disbursement account.
